Many years ago I convinced SWMBO that we should by a quality tent, not the $200 K-Mart special.

On our first trip away we were staying in a CV Park at Pt Stephens. Nearby was a family in a $200 K-Mart special.

Late one afternoon I looked out and said to SWMBO, "That is the blackest cloud I have ever seen!" It's rare but she agreed with me.

That cloud delivered the downpour one would expect from the "Blackest cloud I have ever seen." It was accompanied by some pretty strong wind.

I was busting when it hit so put off the run to the loo until it eased off a tad. On my little jog I ran past the $200 K-Mart special. It had collapsed. The family was cowering, cold and wet in the car. I expect they have never been camping since.

Need I say more?

We bought a k'mart tent a couple of years ago for a trip to Fraser island because we didn't want to take the camper trailer. The quality of the thing was rubbish, thin support poles, stitching hanging out every ware, the zips were the cheapest you could possibly get and the bug screens let everything through from a small bird down. Our one saving grace was that we took a quality tarp and poles with us to cover the thing, as no doubt it would also have leaked like a sieve. We've never used it since (Bought a quality tent). You get what you pay for with tents.

They are fantastic.

When it rains you can use one room as an indoor pool, one as a shower room and have 6 people huddled together in the third room keeping warm without the need for those wet sleeping bags.

There is NOTHING worse than a wet sleeping bag, except maybe that mozzie that gets you at about 5AM.
